Welcome to the beautiful Auchinellan Estate set amongst the lochs, forests and mountains of Argyll and Bute. Book your next holiday in one of our pet friendly, self catering cottages and experience Scotland’s rugged beauty for yourself.
Mrs. Rowan’s Cottage and The Croft lie in the heart of the Estate, each on one side of a triangular meadow. Bounded on the north east by Auchinellan Wood, a burn to the west, and trees to the south. Maida’s Cottage is on the far, north east, side of the estate at the foot of Dun Dubh.
Exploring The Estate

Auchinellan Estate extends to 763 acres opposite Loch Ederline to the front and with Loch Craignish to the rear. Loch Awe is situated half a mile to the North East just beyond the village of Ford. It is mostly hill land offering good walking and 2 particularly good high viewing points. The Hill Fort, Dun Chonallaich at 846 feet, in our opinion the best viewing point of the estate. Dun Dubh at 988 feet is the highest point on the estate and gives tremendous views of the area and particularly up Loch Awe.
You can find a standing stone halfway to the village, known as the Ford Stone, it is 3 meters high and is said to be the site of an ancient grave. There are also some Cup and Ring marked stone on the North Eastern side of the estate behind the village and Maida’s Cottage, you will need to know what you are looking for!
There is a small Chapel situated in the garden of Auchinellan House which all guests are welcome to visit by request, it was built in the 1950’s by a previous owner, while small it is quite charming. Near the Southern corner of the estate there are the foundings of an old Free Church-while there is not much to see, the view over the Dog Loch is lovely.
The main wood which you will drive through as you come up the drive provides a pleasant sheltered walk if the weather is not kind, the top section is largely mature beech while the lower part is more mixed broadleaf and conifer.
Fishing
We have a small Trout Stream where guests can fish from 15th March to 6th October. There is a wide variety of fishing available in the area on sea, river and Loch including Loch Awe which is just 5 minutes away. Permits are available through the shop Fyne Tackle in Lochgilphead.
